Based in a conservation area in Richmond, London, this project involved the complete reconfiguration, basement extension and refurbishment of a detached Arts & Crafts house.
"The Wilding & Wolfe team were very professional, extremely organised , worked well with the build team and were very responsive to the client. I felt that they understood my brief very well and always had numerous concepts to bring my ideas to life. Our new home is amazing and we gets lots of compliments on the design!"
Our client, a family with young children, loved the unique character of this charming, yet dilapidated property and sought to breathe new life into it. The brief was clear: create a bright, modern family home that honours the building's heritage.
Our clients were enthusiastic about using bold colours and patterns, which we integrated through fabrics, wallpapers and rugs. While we meticulously restored the various Arts & Crafts details including panelling, herringbone parquet floors and vintage Bakelite handles, we also wanted to give our clients the relaxed and modern family atmosphere they desired.
This included elements of Moroccan-style patterns, vibrant greens and mid-century style furniture, resulting in a design that beautifully reflected their collective creative personality.
The transformation began with the excavation of a new basement, adding a guest bedroom, bathroom and a cinema/games room, significantly expanding the home's living space. The ground floor was opened up and extended to create a large living area that seamlessly connects to the garden alongside a separate, spacious kitchen and dining area. These changes provided the family with versatile spaces where they could gather or enjoy individual pursuits.
On the first floor, the main family bedrooms were situated, with particular attention given to the master suite. This included a spacious bedroom, a walk-through dressing room and a marble-clad bathroom designed as a sanctuary of calm and luxury.
The bathroom, although relatively small, was strategically placed at the farthest point from the main landing within the master suite, ensuring privacy and tranquillity. The use of luxurious Carrara marble met the brief perfectly, creating a serene retreat.
Throughout the house, we took great care with the panelling, skirtings, cornicing and door designs to maintain the period feel and respect the property's heritage. The result was a spacious, airy and vibrant home that not only preserves the historical charm of the Arts & Crafts style but also caters to the modern tastes and lifestyle of a young family.
We transformed this modern Las Vegas property into a spa-like retreat with natural textures and organic elements.
